This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
