The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
