The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 individuals were killed and more than 40 were hurt when gunmen shot at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have announced the number of fatalities stands at 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to medical facilities.

Those who died are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father-of-five, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.

She told the events before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

In a statement, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was also killed during the attack, as per reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of gunshots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
