New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”
The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
Authorities issued surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.
Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
