Defiant Celtic's manager does not fear dismissal yet Celtic fans display anger after derby defeat.
The under-pressure manager insisted he was not afraid of losing his job, asserting, “The team is very near to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to being fired with a heavy defeat by their arch-rivals.
Another Capitulation Sees Derby Loss
The home side were in front the visitors at the interval but a collapse after the break let Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was brought in from the MLS, has now overseen six losses in eight fixtures.
“We are together at the club,” stated the manager.
Asked directly about whether he was concerned, Nancy responded: “It’s not on my mind. I concentrate on finding ways to help my team to be good on small moments.
Protest Outside Parkhead
Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – aimed at the hierarchy – by protesting at Parkhead. Club directors are reportedly likely to re-appoint Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a caretaker period last year, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. Yet in stating this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am giving up. No. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to change the narrative.”
“Really, Really Close”
He highlights the fact Celtic play well for one half at a time. In fact, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.
“The performance we had at stages was of top quality. This is the reality. And I would not say that if it was different. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I said we've seen this before. That’s why I believe a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. Right now: details, details, details.”
“There were a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. The issue now is performing for 90 minutes. My message would be different if I didn't believe it. This is why I firmly believe the team can to turn things around.”
Röhl’s Cautious Response
Danny Röhl was cautious about a championship push even after what felt like a huge result. “One match at a time, so we can gradually build a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the squad is excellent.”
