David Raya Praises Squad Depth as Essential to Multiple Trophy Pursuit
The Spanish shot-stopper has emphasized that fierce rivalry for starting positions is propelling Arsenal's outstanding performance, with the goalkeeper believing that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so remarkable that they can contend for various titles this season.
Dominant Victories Highlight The Gunners' Prowess
Arsenal's latest comprehensive win over Atlético Madrid marked their six consecutive wins and 10th success in 12 matches. With only three goals conceded—a record low at this stage in the team's legacy—they have secured a narrow advantage at the top of the table and a perfect record in the European competition after three matches.
Squad Changes and Depth Key to Success
Raya has started in nearly every game, aside from one domestic cup fixture, but Arteta has frequently changed the team following heavy spending on new signings. When asked about competing for multiple trophies, Raya said, "Absolutely, I think so. The depth is amazing. There are many players who can excel in two, three, or four positions."
Like in the Atlético match, a teammate was introduced as a forward and is capable of playing as a No 8 or attacking midfielder. That versatility is available to the manager, and he's using it to our advantage. Things appear very, very good, and this roster strength is very important for us.
Rivalry Elevates Standards
Raya added, "That gives you an extra level in practice and games because if you're not at it, you can lose in a fraction of a second. That fosters healthy competitiveness in training and on the pitch, which is really, really important, and the whole squad accepts it."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
The team have conceded only one goal from open play this season, and the keeper has faced a mere one attempt in their last three wins against three opponents.
"It's a collective effort from the forwards to the goalie," Raya explained. "Everyone is focused, determined not to give anything away, and the goal is to cut out passes before it reaches the halfway line. If we intercept, it allows a quick counter. This is essential for everyone to feel this mentality, and opponents aren't creating numerous opportunities, which is perfect."
