Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
